The article on religiosity in all 50 states on talks about the ways that the researchers determined how religious these states are. First, they analyzed worship attendance, prayer frequency, belief in God, and importance of religion in one's life. Alabama, Mississippi, and other southern states rank highest on the list 77% of adults saying they are very religious. Vermont, Maine, and other north-eastern states rank lowest on the list with around 33% of the state saying they are highly religious. This kind of data would be very useful and interesting for political scientists especially during presidential elections to possibly help predict which states would vote for a certain Democratic or Republican candidate based on their religious standpoint.
