Officials suggest that this number will increase even more next year. Congress remains concerned that the administration does not have the capacity to aid the refugees. It is also a controversial topic among both presidential candidates with Trump saying the refugee program is a "Trojan horse" for terrorist groups to enter the country, whereas Clinton argues that the ceiling for Syrian refugees should be pushed to 65,000. The U.S accepted fewer than 1,700 Syrian refugees in the 2015 fiscal year.
