According to usatoday, President Obama was given a Native American hat and blanket at his eighth and final White House Tribal Nations Conference. One tribal leaders calls Obama the first "American Indian president." Before wrapping president Obama in the blanket, National Congress of American Indians President Brian Cladoosby says, "To blanket it to remember those we honor, those we lost,  and those who are going to build our futures rhythm of the land."  Obama smiled as he called the ceremony "an amazing honor." The annual Tribal Nations Conference became a hallmark of Obama's Native American policy, bringing tribal leaders with administration officials beyond the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Indian leaders lined up to celebrate Obama's presidency with Marilynn Malerba, chief of the Mohegan tribe of Connecticut saying, "This president has walked down the path with us. He has left his footprints for many administrations to follow."
